Last night, [livejournal.com profile] fennel and I decided to try Centro in Central Square. Their menu last night wasn't exactly what's up on that page, though, and nothing much particularly sang to either of us except one single appetizer. So, we decided to move on down to Central Kitchen, which we'd also been meaning to try. As we were walking, I shuffled forward a bit to speed up and catch a walk light, and I was suddenly hurtling forward, landing on my left knee and hand.

First thought, pre-pain: Oh, shit, are my jeans ripped? I liked these jeans.
Second thought, at pain onset: I hope I can bike on Saturday!
Third thought, as I tried to stand: Oh, shit, I hope I can walk.

The food was okay. I was a bit disappointed that my "mixed field greens with braised leek & mustard vinaigrette" was not [mixed field greens with braised leek] & [mustard vinaigrette], but rather [mixed field greens] with [(braised leek & mustard) vinaigrette], and that the vinaigrette itself was uninspiring. My cheese plate had the mildest blue cheese I've ever tasted, and [livejournal.com profile] fennel's plate of onion and goat cheese with artichoke hearts, asparagus, and big fat couscous thingies was tasty but not unmissable. I kept my leg propped up on a chair, with my pants rolled up over my slightly-bloody knee. I'm sure the staff loved me.

Stairs seem to hurt.

When I got home, I iced my knee and watched an episode of 24 with [livejournal.com profile] dilletante. We'd been planning a late-night ride, but that was clearly not in the cards when I couldn't take the five steps up to my front door without groaning. I got a full night's sleep, which seems to have helped; this morning, the swelling is down significantly and stairs are just a pain rather than a knife in my kneecap.

This Saturday is the 300 km brevet, qualifier #2 of 4. If I can't ride (and I won't ride if I'm still in pain like this), I will have to do two 400 km qualifiers instead. There's another brevet series in western MA, but their 300 km ride was last weekend. So, I could substitute their 400 km ride on June 5th for this 300, and then ride in the local 400 km ride on June 12th. That would be exciting.

Oddly, my super special vampire healing powers are still in action. What would normally be a bruise the size of a Virginia ham encompassing half my leg is contained to a mild scrape, some slight discoloration, and a LOT of tenderness. Go me.

yay:

I feel good! My knee isn't 100% better, but it's much better than this morning. By tomorrow morning, it'll probably be fine, but I'll wear a knee brace and bring lots of ibuprofen anyway.

boo:

They say it might rain. Bleah.

meh:

To be on the safe side, we're riding to the start line. That way, if my knee starts bothering me, we can skip out before the race even starts.

yay:

I have EL tape on my bike! It is so much cooler than that picture could possibly show.
