Aug. 17th, 2004 05:40 pmThis is kind of interesting: Colorado has a measure on the ballot this November to split its electoral votes in proportion with the state's popular vote, rather than just winner-take-all. That's this November 2, 2004, the same day that we're going to band together to try to elect a president. Apparently, electoral votes aren't officially cast until December, so if the measure passes, it could take effect before the president is actually elected.

I wouldn't be me if I didn't point out that Maine has had a mechanism in place to split electoral votes for, like, ever. However, it doesn't split on a purely popular-vote basis: one electoral vote in each congressional district (2), and two more to the statewide winner. Well, nobody's perfect.
