I got on my bike for the first time in almost five months, today. I think I could count on two hands the number of times I went cycling in 2005. I won't try, because I don't want to discover that I could actually count them on one hand. It felt good, even useful. I'm definitely out of shape, but it feels so familiar to be back on the bike that I didn't even mind having to take the hills very very slowly.
Of all the bike clothes I thought might not fit me after pregnancy, it never occurred to me that my helmet might be on the list. I have shorts and tights and tops that fit me just fine, but my helmet wouldn't even go on my head. It has to be something about my helmet in particular, too -- I tried on D's helmet, and it fit like it always does (too snug but at least I could fit it on my head). Bizarre. I guess I should go buy a new one.

Do babies grow skin faster than everything else? Natalie seems to have purchased a skin that's slightly too large, perhaps on the theory that she'd grow into it.

The weather is unnerving. The tights that fit me best today were from icebike; as I was putting them on, I was thinking, "I really don't deserve to be wearing these, this season". But then, I got outside and discovered that they were absurd for other reasons. There were joggers and families on bikes and even rollerbladers on the path, since it was a bright and sunny early-April kind of day outside. Spooky.
That said, I'm ready for it to be spring. I'd like one snowy weekend in February, because I still harbor some crazy illusion that we'll get to try snowboarding, but once that's done with, I'm happy to fast-forward to the time of year when outdoor exercise is more welcoming. I can KEEP biking into the winter, but STARTING in the winter is something else entirely. Unless, of course, it's a freakish transplanted day like today was.

Natalie seems to know when she's at home, since she's always happier and smilier when we're here than when we're out. Her big dopey grins are hypnotizingly cute; I never pull out the camera in time to capture one, since I'm too busy being transfixed.

What else was there? I don't remember. It's gone.
