baby's first portmanteau

So, a week or two ago, N and I were driving in the car and she told me that her goose was "really really hungry!".

Me: Oh yeah? What does it want to eat?
N: ...Gouda?
Me: Oh, gouda! It's a gouda goose?
N: GOUDA GOOSE!
Me: GOUDA GOOSE!
N: .....GOOSA!!! *giggle*
Me: Goosa?
N: GOOSA! Gouda goose! GOOSA! Goosa.

She still refers to it as the "goosa" every so often. Similarly, her pink binky is a "BINK! *giggle*" (the giggle is mandatory), and the other day after reciting "whack whack whack!" from Hand Hand Fingers Thumb, she asked me if she could have some "whackolate". I said no -- it sounded messy. Today, when she did not pick up the cookie-cutter and the book off of the floor like I asked, and I did it instead, she said "Mommy picked up the bookie-cutter".

This girl is supremely silly.

She's also fascinated by more nonsensical noiseplay. Randomly shouting "EIEIO!!!" was quickly boring, so she quickly moved on to "BE BI BE BI BO!" or "DE DI DE DI DO!", but if one is to suggest, say, "fee fi fee fi fo", she giggles and says NOOOOO. So I was interested when she switched from BE BI BE BI BO! to PE PI PE PI PO! the other day and kept collapsing in giggles. Similarly DE DI DE DI DO --> TE TI TE TI TO, because clearly, in both cases she had meant the voiced version of the consonant. I blame D, and the silly game they play where she calles him "Datty".

I also love the sometimes hyper-perfect sentence structure. Like when we were reading a book together about daddy animals and their kids, and she pointed at the little wolf and told me, "that is not a wolf. That is a dog." "Oh, really?" I asked. "Yes. THAT is a wolf." *pointed at the big wolf* "THAT is NOT a wolf." *pointed at the little wolf*. OK, then! Today at lunch, while she was on her third pat (don't look at me that way), she told me, "I am eating butter." But I think the best was last night's -- I was reading a book in the living room while [livejournal.com profile] starphire gave the girls a bath in the next room, and I heard her triumphantly proclaim, "I HAVE FARTED!"

Anyway, she's wicked cute.

Yes. Yes, she is. :)

I got her to briefly admit "ne ni ne ni natalie" to the canon, but it appears too silly to retain :)

Alas! Out of curiosity, I tried it on her today and it got a NOOOOOO! again. "De di de di doggie" was okay, though.

The small girl canon is mysterious.

Will you ever forgive me if I teach her the name game? :)

I heard her triumphantly proclaim, "I HAVE FARTED!"

I'm pretty sure *this* is why we have kids :)

Well, really, there are much easier ways to get fart jokes delivered to your home!

Yes, but when are they ever so endearing?

She's amazingly cute.

Wow. What a little linguist! Your kid is seriously awesome, Molly! I don't know whether to suggest that you have more or whether to suggest that the world only has room for one. :-)

Hee! Seth was obsessed with the "Batman smells" version of jingle bells for a long while (thanks, kindergarten!) but when it got bring, he switched to the all "b" version ("Bingle bells, Batman bells, Bobin bayed ben begg....").

Ha! That's great. :)

A friend from years ago told me that once when her daughter was around N's age and in the process of potty training, the kid was bouncing on the bed and the mom was nearby, and the mom sort of chuckled and said "I farted," and a second or two later the daughter announced "I PEEING!" A mad scramble ensued.

Does Natalie have Poetry Speaks to Children (http://www.amazon.com/Poetry-Speaks-Children-Book-Read/dp/1402203292/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196468491&sr=8-1), or any other poetry books/recordings? She sounds ripe for it.

No! Her great-uncle recently sent her a Ted Hughes book, but I think it's a bit over her head. That one that you linked to sounds fantastic!!

It is! I'm particularly fond of "The Adventures of Isabelle."

She is adorable,

But _you_ are tremendously adorable for using portmanteau. The use of 10cent words fills me with boundless affection for some reason, and that one is a personal favorite.
