she started talking last week

Stuff I have heard Natalie say, totally intelligibly:
mommy
daddy
nanny
dirty
Ember
bed (she woke up yesterday and triumphantly proclaimed, "BED!")
tree
teeth
cheese ("sheeesh!")
keys
tea
baby ("beeebee! beebee!")
cup ("cupcupcupcupcup")
poop
cat
shoe
up
down
hummus
cook
car ("cauuwwww. caaauuuwwwWWW.")
that ("dat")
knee
bubble ("bubww")
kick
ball
eyeball
home
happy
yes!

not really intelligible unless you know: balloon ("bbbbbbbbbbbmmmmmm!"), cracker, diaper, moose, hair. Bunches more stuff she's tried to repeat once or twice but hasn't produced on her own. A couple of short sentences.

I think there are more... I'll add them as I think of them. These days, I hear a new word just about every evening.

For some reason, "hummus" made me laugh out loud. Go N!

[identity profile] chenoameg.livejournal.com 2007-04-27 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was like "which of these words is not like the others"!

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2007-04-27 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
She really really likes hummus.

"A'cado" was [livejournal.com profile] vorpalkitten's odd one out.

[identity profile] artricia.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
ember.

And this is an impressive list!

Eyeball!!

I totally 3d the hummus is a funny word thing.

P00P!!!!

Cool! That is so exciting, though there are days I'd like to go back to the non-talking model. :-)

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2007-04-27 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, in this one's case, "non-talking" never really meant "silent". :)

[identity profile] crouchback.livejournal.com 2007-04-27 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The really neat thing about this is that later on, when she gets curious about when she started talking, you can tell her the day.

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2007-04-27 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes and no. :) I mean, it's probably been, I don't know, nine months since she first started saying something that seemed like it was "cat"...

[identity profile] diatom.livejournal.com 2007-04-27 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hummus and eyeball seemed esp. neat, I agree. When does eyeball come up? ...*wondering about that*

[identity profile] kimberlogic.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
eyeball!

and happy :)

Today, in the bath Aidan declared, quite intelligibly "I did it!""

We did not get a repeat performance, but it was quite amusing.

He KINDA has words. I can't really get him to show me that he really knows what he's saying. But I know for sure he has "fish" (isshhhh!) because he runs up to the fish tank and points to it and says "fish" every morning after breakfast.

He's kinda saying "hi" and "dada" and "mama" but not consistently enough for us to know if it's babling or not.

Still... I like the idea of him just starting to talk by proclaiming his accomplishments!

[identity profile] oddlystrange.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
umm... I hit submit too quickly. I'm terribly amused that technically the way she says "car" could be understdood by a good deal of the folks where you live. :)

hummus is awesome! Aidan's word for hummus is "AHHH!" (outstretched hands) "AHHHH!"

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, funny! That's N's word for raisins. :)
