Date: 2009-01-05 04:18 pm (UTC)* I leave the SLR on and let it time out to turn off. This way, for me, whether it's on or off, I just take it into my hands and try to take a picture and am sometimes delayed by waiting for it to start.
* I bought a camera with a faster boot time than my old Digital Rebel, to make that first step less painful.
* I lost my lenscap so now I walk around with no lenscap on, just a UV Haze filter. This reduces the time it takes for me to take a picture. I know that this habit will eventually destroy the filter -- but how much do those cost? $25? It's worth it to me.
* I own six or eight batteries and at least two chargers, so I always try to have a spare on me.
* I leave my camera set on Aperture Priority and f/2, which is often a decent guess for what I want to be seeing. :)
All of this means that I've reduced the number of gestures it takes to get a photo down to two: reach for the camera over my shoulder and press the button. If I have an extra second or the extra cope to spare, I will add in: check my light, decide what I want to do with it, and twiddle a few buttons accordingly, but really, for me, it's mostly about accessibility and short time-to-shutter-click.

Date: 2009-01-05 05:38 pm (UTC)which means your lenses are way faster than the crap i've got. :)
should i infer that you usually leave the same lens on all the time?
