This comment reminds me of the song in the movie Beaches about inventor Otto Titsling and the industrial espionage of Philippe DeBrassiere.

Funny, my compact OED doesn't even have an entry for "cunt", much less "Gropecunt" under it.

(There's a "cunt", but it redirects to "cont" and "count".)

huh! "cunt" is in the electronic shorter OED, with a note to the effect of "naughty word. very naughty word.".

I am flabbergasted to find that cunt is apparently the medieval term for vulva. I'd always assumed that its current and historical usage referred to the vagina only, and had mourned the apparent lack of any Anglo-Saxon term for the vulva other than "pussy", which I detest.

Learn something new every day :)

It, along with "queynte" and variants, is the word for "bit you can grab", mostly. ;)

("And prively he caughte hire by the queynte...")

Ah Chaucer. Forever linked in my mind with the naughty word.

On reading the question, I thought, "Isn't that a street in Ankh Morpork?"

I guess it isn't ... but it should be. :-)

Makes me want to find the kitchen towel from Maidenhead, that I used to have. Don't know where that got off to.
